Two hours before the year 2010 ended, I was still busy doing my job as a Freelancer. As for my son, he was outside our house, giggling and laughing with the neighbors' kids. They were busy preparing for firecrackers that they were planning to use to welcome 2011.
Fireworks and firecrackers are very famous in the Philippines especially if there are big celebrations like birthdays, fiesta, anniversaries, and most of all, Christmas and New Year.
I learned that firecrackers were invented by the Chinese and that was one of their many inventions which they brought in the Philippines. The Chinese believed that loud sounds and exploding lights could ward off the bad spirits and misfortunes of the old year and to give the incoming year a clean slate.
The difference between fireworks and firecrackers is that the beauty of fireworks can only be seen during nighttime. On the other hand, the firecrackers is being appreciated by the sound it produces, thus the louder the sound of the explosion, the better it is to keep bad luck away from transferring to the new year.
The Philippine government is now discouraging the Filipino people to use firecrackers since most of the time, freak incidents happen (see the picture below to know the reason).

Most of the firecrackers and fireworks that proliferate in the Philippines came from Bocaue, Bulacan, which is also being considered as the "Firecracker capital of the Philippines".
Below are some of the most dangerous firecrackers available in the market.
Atomic Bomb - explodes like an Atomic Bomb (left) / GoodBye Philippines - explodes like there is Civil War in the Philippines (right)
