This month his fiancee' will go to California to be with him. But I do not think that his gf truly loves him. The gf only wants to use my brother so that she could go to the US. The girl had a bf who was from the US also. From what I learned from her parents, she was really eyeing to go to the US by chatting online to foreigners.
Honestly, many Filipinas want to marry Americans or Caucasians to go to other countries. Why do you think many Filipinos want to have a degree in nursing? It is because they want to go abroad and the country that they prioritize is the US.
Everyday, thousands of Filipinos line up to get a US visa at the US Embassy here in Manila.
I guess people who would read this would be disturbed. But this is the truth. When we see Caucasians here, we looked to them as if they were from heaven. And when our relatives from the US visit Manila, we would see them as people who had gone to heaven and back.
The first in our family who went to the US was my aunt. She did not marry an American so she could go there. She was hired by a US company.
Have you noticed that when a Philippines government official have issues here in our country, the first place that they would run to is the US?
All people here in the Philippines understand English. You can communicate to the poorest Filipino using English. They might not reply to you in English also but they understand it.
English is like a status quo for us. If a Filipino cannot speak to a fellow Filipino in fluent English, he will be regarded as illiterate. We look down on our fellow Filipino who is not eloquent in English!
I guess we Filipinos neither love our own country nor the people living in it.
Maybe this is the reason why the Philippines has a backward economy.
This is a very sensitive article and I will not be surprised if there would be violent comments from Filipinos out there.

WOW - You said it outloud.
the philipines has a color struck issue. in case you don't know what that is, I'll break it down.
colonialism gave the impression to those it conquered that white was right and everybody else better get back.
brown people of the world were the first to experience this self hatred and it still runs rampant in many cultures. do not feel alone as there are many people in the us who are just as stupid.
basing your personal relationships on color or national identity is a self effacing prophecy.
I wholeheartedly agree with you. if your brother is smart, he will get married in hong kong and see how it goes, before going into a long drawn out negative relationship with a greencard hunter.
my website is really badgals-radio.com / I use the blogger id because it is the only one allowed. you may want to adjust that setting to get a better fix of who your visitors really are.
Interesting article. I've been made to feel like I was wasting my time by studying languages other than English because so many people speak it. I don't like the universality of English but I'm not going to let that stop me from studying other tongues.
I know 2 Filipinas who got to the US because they married Americans. And when they visit Manila, they dated Filipinos.
There is this 1 Filipina who became an American citizen because her Filipino-American bf married her, but after sometime, the Filipina left her Filipino-American husband!
I told my brother that if he would like to marry a Filipina, he could always look for one in the US. America is a huge country and it is impossible that he won't get a decent girl there.
I just don't want him to be used and get hurt.
Even the kids here know English so do not be surprised if you visit Manila.
What language are you studying?
I guess the toughest language to learn is Mandarin and Fookien because it is based on Chinese characters and intonations.
A potential can of worms my friend - di ka rin nakatiis. We both know that we have many pinays here who had married handsome gents from the US (or other developed country).
I find it frustrating to find out the reality why so many Filipinos want to be out of the country - better life. And one way to do that is to marry a foreigner and live the life.
I strongly believe that it is the wrong mindset of the government to push our country into finding work overseas, just to bring back dollars and sustain the economy. I'm tired of hearing that the dollar remittances from OFWs keeps the country's economy afloat.
Somehow it makes Pinoys dependent on corporate jobs and working for multinational companies, rather than finding ways to learn entrepreneurship and put up their own companies.
Happy Birthday to you too! Thanks for visiting my blog. Visit me any time.
You are right Gem. People going abroad for jobs is just a short term solution to earn money. When the OFW come back here in our country, they are still poor.
I have chatted with Malaysian, Indonesian and Indian bloggers and I am surprised to know that they love their country so much! They love their country that they are willing to live there even the times are rough.
Thanks Feefi! I am a year older but NOT a year wiser hehehe...
At least somebody loves us!
I know many filipino women who have married Americans and have come here. Many of them worked here first, but stayed here afterward. Every single one of them that I know is honest, upstanding, God-fearing, and a credit to the people who know them.
Maybe the problem is not with the ladies who emigrate, but with the government. Perhaps if it was "in the business" of creating wealth by attracting business, and securing freedom for it's people, this would reverse.
I think the US is on a slippery slope in the opposite direction, though. Especially with the upcoming election. if the "tax and spend" candidate gets in, I think the economy will tank. Maybe our people will start emigrating elsewhere. We'll see what happens!
What is sad is that some are being used so as to go there in the US. It is okay to go there and love the US but not to use other people and hurt them.
My family loves the US. They are there in California. But they did not use other people to get there.
